Okay, so, today I wanted to dig into something that’s been on my mind – the Edgar Alvarez baseball draft. I first heard about this guy and thought, “Who’s this Edgar Alvarez?” I gotta say, it became a little project for me.
Getting Started
First off, I hit up the usual spots online to get the basic info on Edgar. Turns out, this dude’s got some numbers. I saw he’s with the South Bend Cubs, assigned there on August 6, 2024, which is pretty recent. Born in Orlando, this guy is 23, stands 6-foot-4, and weighs 225 pounds. A lefty batter and righty thrower. I’m thinking, “Okay, a big guy.”
Digging Deeper
So, I wanted more than just the basics. I started looking into his stats. This is where it got interesting. In 2022, playing for Nicholls, he had a batting average of .290, an on-base percentage of .399, and a slugging percentage of .495. Not too bad. He played 50 games, had 228 plate appearances, and smashed 9 home runs. I mean, 9 home runs? That’s something. And 49 RBIs, that’s pretty solid too.
Then I found out more about the draft itself. It seemed like kind of a weird one for the Cubs, from what I read. People were saying it was an “understatement” to call it strange. I’m not a draft expert, but that got me curious. Why was it strange? What were they expecting?
What I Found
I stumbled upon some player profiles and stuff. There’s a Perfect Game Player Profile for Edgar Alvarez from the class of 2019. And I even found a similar name, Edgar Perez, class of 2027, which made me chuckle a bit. Same last name different person.
I also noticed that a few guys from McNeese got named to the LSWA All-Louisiana Baseball Team. I guess that’s a big deal in those parts. It got me thinking about all the local talent out there.
Then, there’s this other Edgar, Edgar Gonzalez. This guy’s a second baseman and rightfielder, born in ’78. Totally different era, but it’s cool to see the name pop up again. Baseball is full of these little coincidences, right?
Wrapping Up
So, that’s my little journey into the world of Edgar Alvarez and the baseball draft. I started with just a name and ended up diving into stats, draft stories, and even some local baseball news. It’s always interesting to see where these little investigations take you. It’s like following a trail of breadcrumbs, and each one leads you to something new. And who knows, maybe I’ll keep following Edgar’s career. He’s with the Cubs organization now, so you never know where he might end up.
Anyway, that’s all for now. Just wanted to share my little adventure. Hope you found it as interesting as I did!
