Today, I was playing Genshin Impact, and stumbled upon this new world boss, the Golem Captain. Defeating him rewarded me with this item called “Fragment of a Golden Melody”. It’s described as a golden fragment that fell from the centaur golem’s chest, with an inscription of a tune upon the shattered rubble. I’m not sure how to put it back together, but it definitely got me curious.
I’ve always wondered what makes music so appealing. Some folks say it’s the lyrics that tug at our heartstrings, triggering emotional responses. I mean, think about it, the first GRAMMYs were held way back in 1959, and music has been a big deal ever since.
I did some digging and found out that some researchers used algorithms and mathematical models to study the evolution of pitch and rhythm in hit melodies over the past seventy years. Pretty cool, right? Like, why does “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” stick in our heads and hearts? It was a big hit from The Wizard of Oz back in the day, being one of the first something something, but I can’t recall the specifics.
Then there’s Richard Rodgers’s “Some Enchanted Evening,” which has such a beautiful melody. It just flows along with those rich, unforced chromatic harmonies. It’s like music magic!
My Quest to Understand
- First, I dove into some articles about what makes music melodic.
- Then, I tried to find more about this “Fragment of a Golden Melody” in the game. I learned that it’s used to ascend Arlecchino, but that didn’t help me understand the musical part.
- Next, I listened to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “Some Enchanted Evening” to see if I could feel the magic they talked about.
- Finally, I realized I still had more questions than answers, but it was a fun journey nonetheless.
So, yeah, I still don’t fully get why music is so powerful, or how to piece together that golden melody fragment, but it’s been a fun ride exploring these tunes and their history. Music sure has a way of getting to us, doesn’t it?
