Okay, so I’ve been a huge fan of Dustin Poirier for a while now. I mean, the guy’s a beast in the octagon, right? And I’ve always admired his fighting style and his whole vibe. So, a few months ago, I started thinking, “Why not get a tattoo to show my support?”
I spent weeks browsing online, looking at different designs, and trying to figure out what I wanted. I even checked out some of Poirier’s own tattoos for inspiration. Like, he’s got that cool tiger on his left shoulder, surrounded by flowers. It’s supposed to represent strength and independence, which I think is pretty awesome. He also has around 27 tattoos, that’s crazy, right? And he’s got his grandma’s name, Glenda, on his wrist, and diamonds on both wrists. The diamonds are about beauty and wealth, but also about commitment between spouses. Man, this guy is deep.
Initially, I thought about getting something similar to the tiger, but then I realized I wanted something a bit more unique. I mean, I love the guy, but I didn’t want to copy his ink exactly. So, I started brainstorming different ideas.
I went through a bunch of concepts. I considered just getting his nickname, “The Diamond,” but that felt a bit too simple. Then I thought about maybe getting a portrait of him, but I wasn’t sure I could handle the pain of a detailed portrait tattoo. I stumbled upon this one Instagram post, some user named westtilldeath, who got a portrait of Poirier. Looked insane, but again, not for me.
After a lot of back and forth, I finally decided on a design. I went with a stylized representation of Dustin Poirier. It’s got his general look and attitude, with a bit of abstract mixed in. It also represents my support for MMA in general. It’s got some bold lines and some shading. Nothing too crazy, but it gets the message across.
Then came the hard part – finding the right tattoo artist. I asked around, checked out some local shops, and looked at a ton of portfolios online. Finally, I found this artist whose style I really liked. We had a consultation, I showed him my design, and we talked about placement and size.
Finally, the day came. I went to the shop, and we got started. Let me tell you, it wasn’t a walk in the park. The outline wasn’t too bad, but the shading? Man, that stung a bit. But, I powered through. I just kept thinking about Poirier’s fights and how he never gives up, and that kept me going.
A few hours later, it was done. I looked in the mirror, and I was stoked. It looked even better than I had imagined. It’s on my upper arm, so I can show it off when I want, but also cover it up if I need to.
It’s been a few weeks now, and I’m still super happy with it. It’s a constant reminder to stay strong and keep pushing forward, just like Dustin Poirier. Plus, it’s a pretty cool conversation starter. Whenever someone asks me about it, I get to talk about one of my favorite fighters. So yeah, that’s the story of my Dustin Poirier tattoo. It was a bit of a process, but totally worth it in the end.
