This here story’s about them covered tennis courts. You know, them places where folks play that tennis game, but they got a roof over ’em. Keeps the rain out, keeps the sun from beatin’ down on ya somethin’ fierce. My old bones don’t like the heat no more, so these covered courts, they a real blessin’ if you like playin’ that game.
Now, I ain’t no expert on all this fancy stuff. But I hear tell, they make these covered courts outta all sorts of things. Some of them are wood, some are metal, some are other stuff I don’t even know the names of. But they all do the same thing – keep you dry and cool while you’re whackin’ that little ball around.
I heard there is covered tennis courts in New York. That’s a busy place, that New York. Lots of folks there, all runnin’ around, makin’ money, playin’ tennis, I reckon. Some of them tennis courts, they got roofs, some of ’em don’t. If you ask me, the ones with the roofs are the smart ones.

And let me tell ya, playin’ when it’s rainin’ cats and dogs outside, but you’re inside, all snug and dry, that’s a good feelin’. And in the summer, when it’s hotter than a furnace out there, you can still play tennis in one of these covered courts. Don’t matter if it’s rainin’, snowin’, or hotter than blue blazes, you can still play. That’s the best part, I reckon. You can make your tennis plan any time you want!
I hear they even got these covered courts in a place called Ohio. Ohio University tennis courts, that’s where they are. They say them courts in Ohio are heated to about 70 degrees. Now, that’s what I call livin’! Imagine playin’ tennis in the middle of winter, and it’s warm as toast in there. I bet them college kids in Ohio, they sure do love that. Center court tennis Ohio, that’s where the action is, I reckon.
They say these here covered courts ain’t got no air conditionin’. They got these big ol’ fans, though, to keep the air movin’. I guess that’s good enough. Better than nothin’, that’s for sure. And they say this acrylic stuff they put on the ground, it dries real quick. That’s good, ’cause nobody likes waitin’ around for the court to dry after a rain shower.
Now, you might be wonderin’, how big are these here tennis courts? Well, they’re pretty darn big. You need a lot of space to play that game. They say a regular court needs at least 120 feet by 60 feet. That’s a lot of space! And if you’re gonna have a tournament, you need even more space – 130 feet by 70 feet. That’s bigger than my whole darn garden!
And they got these covered tennis courts all over the place. Some are fancy, some ain’t so fancy. Some are for rich folks, some are for regular folks like me. But they all serve the same purpose – lettin’ folks play tennis, no matter what the weather’s doin’.
These courts, they ain’t cheap to build. I hear it costs a pretty penny to put one of these things up. But if you got the money, and you love tennis, then I reckon it’s worth it. You can play anytime you want, day or night, rain or shine.
And you don’t have to worry about gettin’ all sunburned. That sun, it can be a real killer, especially in the summer. But with a covered court, you’re protected. You can play for hours and not have to worry about gettin’ burned to a crisp. That’s why I think covered tennis courts are so popular.

One more thing, I hear tell these covered courts are good for other things too, not just tennis. You can have parties in ’em, or dances, or whatever you want. They’re just big, empty spaces with a roof over ’em. So you can use ’em for all sorts of things. I saw a man once say that a tennis court can be changed to a place for another ball game. I don’t know what that game is but it sounds fun.
I guess what I’m tryin’ to say is, these covered tennis courts, they’re a good thing. They let folks play tennis, no matter what. And that’s important, ’cause folks need to have fun. And playin’ tennis, that’s a good way to have fun. So if you ever get a chance to play on a covered tennis court, you should do it. You might just like it. And if you see one of them courts with a roof, you can think about all the other stuff you can do there too, not just tennis. It’s a good place to have a party, or a dance, or maybe even a pie-eatin’ contest. Who knows? The possibilities are endless. I sure do wish I had one of them covered courts in my backyard. I’d be playin’ tennis all day long, rain or shine!
