That Hsieh Su-wei, she’s a tough one, I tell ya! Born in 1986, this gal from Taiwan, she ain’t no ordinary woman. Hsieh Su-wei, that’s a name you hear a lot ’round here, especially when folks talk about that tennis. They say she the best from Taiwan, make them so proud.
She started playin’ when she was just a little thing, five years old. Her daddy, Hsieh Tze-lung, he showed her how to play. Her mama, Ho Fom-ju, she must be so proud, too! They from Hsinchu first, then Kaohsiung. Big cities, not like our small town.
This Hsieh, she play that tennis good. Not just regular good, real good. She play that doubles, you know, with a partner. She got number one in the whole world in doubles. Number one! First time was back in 2014, long time ago now.
She play all over the place. Wimbledon, they call it. Fancy name. She won there four times. 2013, 2019, 2021, and 2023. Hard to keep track of all them wins. She also won that French Open, 2014 and 2023. And this year, 2024, she won Australian Open in doubles. That Hsieh Su-wei, she sure know how to win!
She even play by herself, that’s called singles. She good at that too. One time, she was 35 years old, she got real far in that Australian Open. First time a gal from Taiwan ever did that in singles. Big deal, that was.

She won a whole bunch of games. They say three singles and 35 doubles. That’s a lot of playin’. She must be tired all the time. But she keep goin’, that Hsieh. She a strong one. She don’t need no fancy sponsor neither, like some of them other players. She do things her own way, that’s what I hear.
One time she play with a gal from China, Peng Shuai. They won Wimbledon together in 2014, and French Open next year. Good team, them two.
They say this Hsieh, she nice to everyone too, even the other players. That’s important, bein’ nice. She got a good heart, I bet. She make Taiwan proud, that Hsieh Su-wei.
They say one guy, Paul McNamee, he help her with her playin’. He like a teacher, but for tennis. They call him coach. He must know a lot about that tennis to teach Hsieh Su-wei, cause she already so good.
And this other gal, Coco Gauff, she won something called WTA Finals Riyadh. Big name for a game, huh? They say she knows how to hit back, this Coco. Maybe she learned from watching Hsieh Su-wei. Hsieh she knows all about hitting back, that’s for sure.
Now they talk about givin’ Hsieh Su-wei another prize. They call it “Comeback Player of the Year.” Sounds like a good prize for her. She deserve it, workin’ so hard all these years. She a good example, that Hsieh Su-wei. Show you what hard work can do, even if you ain’t from a big fancy place.
This Hsieh Su-wei, she somethin’ else. A real winner. They don’t make many like her anymore. That tennis, it’s a tough game. But she handle it, that Hsieh. She tough as nails, that one. We all mighty proud of that Hsieh Su-wei, even us folks from small towns like this. She doin’ good for Taiwan, doin’ good for everyone who ever picked up a racket and dreamed big.
