Well, let me tell you somethin’ about them Bengals and that there Super Bowl. Folks keep askin’, “Have them Bengals ever won a Super Bowl?” It’s like this, see? They ain’t never won the whole darn thing, not yet anyways. They got close a few times, though. Real close.
I heard tell they made it to the Super Bowl three times. Yep, three times! Once in ’81, then again in ’89 and most recently in 2022. But darn it all, they just couldn’t pull it off. Lost all three times, they did. That last one, in 2022, that was a real heartbreaker. Lost to them Rams, they did. Close game, real close. Lost by just three points, 23 to 20. Coulda gone either way, that game coulda.

Now, some folks, they say the Bengals had a real good chance that year. They had a good team, a real good team. But somethin’ just didn’t click, ya know? They had some troubles, they did. Turnovers, that was a problem. And that defense, sometimes it was good, sometimes it wasn’t. And injuries, oh them injuries! Hurt the team somethin’ awful, they did. Offensive line, defensive line, all messed up with injuries.
And that kicker, bless his heart, he had the yips somethin’ fierce. Couldn’t make a field goal to save his life, seemed like. And runnin’ the ball? Forget about it! They couldn’t run the ball to save their granny’s biscuits. Sixth worst in the whole league, I heard tell. And so many close games they lost. Six losses by just one score. Five of them by six points or less. Just couldn’t catch a break, them Bengals couldn’t.
The Rams, they were good, real good. They went and got themselves a new quarterback, that Stafford fella. And then they got that Miller fella, the one who chases quarterbacks, and that Beckham fella, the one who catches the ball. Spent a lot of money, they did. But that’s how it goes sometimes. You gotta spend money to make money, or in this case, win Super Bowls. That’s what I always said about my chickens, you gotta feed ‘em good to get good eggs, ya know?
Now, I ain’t no expert or nothin’, but seems to me the Bengals need a little bit of luck and a whole lot of somethin’ else to win a Super Bowl. They gotta stay healthy, gotta hold onto the ball, gotta run the ball better, and gotta make them field goals. And maybe, just maybe, they gotta get a little meaner, a little tougher. You can’t win nothin’ bein’ soft, ya know? Gotta have some grit, some fire in your belly.
So, to answer your question, no, them Bengals ain’t ever won a Super Bowl. But they got close, and maybe, just maybe, they’ll get there one day. Who knows? That’s football for ya. Anything can happen on any given Sunday. And that’s why we watch, ain’t it? For that little bit of hope, that little bit of chance that maybe, just maybe, our team will win it all. That “Who Dey” thing, well, I reckon they started that a long time ago, even before they won. Guess they just had hope, like the rest of us.
But let me tell you somethin’ else, losing a game ain’t the end of the world. It ain’t like losing someone you love. It’s just a game, after all. You pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and try again next year. That’s what them Bengals gotta do. Keep fightin’, keep tryin’, and maybe, just maybe, one of these days, they’ll bring home that Super Bowl trophy. And wouldn’t that be somethin’?
