Alright, so you wanna know about this Bruce Pearl fella, huh? Okay, okay, I’ll tell ya what I know. Don’t expect no fancy words though, I ain’t no scholar, just a plain ol’ talker.
Bruce Pearl, that’s the name, right? He’s one of them basketball coaches, yeah, the ones that yell at young fellas runnin’ around on the court. He’s coachin’ the Auburn Tigers now, that’s what I heard. Them Tigers, they play college ball, you know, like them fellas who ain’t quite good enough for the pros yet, or maybe just wanna learn a bit more before they go get the big bucks.
Now, this Bruce fella, he’s been around the block a few times. He weren’t always with Auburn, see? He coached other places too. I can’t rightly remember all of ‘em, but he’s been at it a good long while. He’s like that ol’ rooster down the road, always crowin’ and struttin’ his stuff, no matter where he is.
He’s married too, this Bruce. Got himself a wife named Brandy. Brandy Miller, that was her name before she hitched up with him. Came from Sevierville, I think. Good for him, findin’ a good woman. A man needs a good woman to keep him in line, you know what I mean? Otherwise, they just go off the rails, like a runaway wagon.

But this Bruce fella, he ain’t always been squeaky clean. Heard tell he got into some hot water a while back. Something about cheatin’ or somethin’. I don’t rightly remember all the details, but it was a big to-do. Folks were fussin’ and hollerin’, sayin’ he should be fired and all that. But he weaseled his way outta that mess, like a fox in a henhouse. Apologized and all, said he was sorry. Folks seem to forgive him, or maybe they just forgot, people got short memories these days.
There was this other thing too, somethin’ about him and another coach, Jimmy Collins his name was. Seems like somethin’ happened way back when, in the eighties. Accusations were flyin’ around, money changin’ hands, that kinda thing. Real messy business. But then, just the other day, I heard they met up down in New Orleans, on Bourbon Street of all places! Can you imagine? And Bruce, he apologized to Jimmy. Said he was sorry for what happened all them years ago. Well, I guess it’s never too late to say you’re sorry, even if it takes a lifetime.
And then there was that investigation, took four years they said. Four years! That’s a long time to be lookin’ into somethin’. Folks were worried, thought maybe Bruce was gonna get the boot. But in the end, it wasn’t so bad. A little slap on the wrist, that’s all. He got off pretty easy, if you ask me. But that’s how it goes sometimes, ain’t it? The rich and powerful, they always seem to land on their feet.
So, what else can I tell ya about this Bruce Pearl? He’s a basketball coach, a husband, a fella who’s had his share of troubles, and a fella who knows how to talk his way outta a tight spot. He’s still coachin’ them Auburn Tigers, last I heard. Whether he’s a good man or a bad man, well, that’s for the Lord to judge. Me, I’m just tellin’ ya what I know, the way I see it.
Folks are always gonna have somethin’ to say about a fella like Bruce Pearl. He’s out there in the public eye, makin’ big money, winnin’ games, losin’ games. He’s bound to make some folks happy and some folks mad. That’s just the way of the world. But one thing’s for sure, he’s a character, this Bruce Pearl. And he’s not goin’ away anytime soon, not if he has anythin’ to say about it.
