Well, howdy there! Let’s jaw about this here “rates of return nyt crossword” thing. Don’t rightly know what all them big words mean, but sounds like some kinda puzzle from that city paper, the New York Times. My grandpappy used to say, “Puzzles ain’t nothin’ but brain teasers,” and he was a smart fella, even if he couldn’t read too good.

Now, folks say this here crossword, it ain’t easy. Especially if you ain’t used to it. They say Mondays is the easiest, like learnin’ to walk before you run. So, if you’re new to this game, start with them Monday ones. Don’t go jumpin’ into Saturday, ’cause that’s the hard one, like tryin’ to wrestle a greased pig. Sunday’s supposed to be kinda middle-of-the-road, like a warm day, not too hot, not too cold.

See, this crossword ain’t like plantin’ corn, where you just stick it in the ground and watch it grow. You gotta think, and sometimes you gotta scratch your head and stare at them squares ’til your eyes go cross-eyed. They give you clues, little hints like “What goes up must come down,” and you gotta figure out the word. This one, they say it’s “axiom.” Fancy word, ain’t it?

My neighbor, bless her heart, she tries these crosswords. Says sometimes she gets stuck, like a mule in mud. And you know what? She just puts it down, goes and bakes a pie, then comes back later, and bam! The answer pops right into her head. It’s like magic, but I reckon it’s just givin’ your brain a rest, like lettin’ the fields lie fallow for a season.

  • One thing folks say is to start with the letters you know.
  • Like if you got a “T” and an “H”, well, that might be “THE” or “THAT”, right?
  • Then you look at the words goin’ the other way, and that helps you fill in the blanks.

Now, this New York Times crossword, it’s been around for a donkey’s years, since 1941, they say. Folks all over the country do it, like it’s some kinda ritual. They even got stars for doin’ ’em. Gold stars if you do ’em every day without cheatin’, and blue stars just for finishin’. Sounds like a schoolhouse thing, but grown-ups do it, I tell ya!

Some folks, they’re fast as a jackrabbit at these puzzles. They say on average, it takes folks nine minutes and twenty-four seconds to finish. But I reckon that’s just an average. Some folks are faster, some slower. It’s like pickin’ cotton; some folks are just quicker with their hands. Anyway, they figured out all that time spent on crosswords adds up to more than 14 whole days! Can you believe that? Folks spendin’ more than two weeks of their lives just fillin’ in them little squares. Well, I guess folks do what they enjoy.

So, if you’re lookin’ to try this here “rates of return nyt crossword,” don’t get discouraged if it’s tough. Start easy, take your time, and don’t be afraid to put it down and come back later. And remember, it’s just a puzzle. It ain’t gonna put food on the table or mend a fence. But it might just tickle your brain a little, and that ain’t a bad thing.

And if you see “Rates of return” as a clue, well, good luck to ya! I ain’t got the foggiest idea what that means, but maybe you’ll figure it out. Just remember what my grandma used to say, “A little patience and a little bit of thinkin’ can solve just about anything.”
