Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about these golf clothes, ya know, the kind them fancy folks wear when they’re hittin’ that little white ball around. I ain’t no expert, mind you, but I’ve seen enough on TV and heard enough from my grandson to know a thing or two. He’s always goin’ on about this golf apparel brand and that, spendin’ all his hard-earned money on it, I tell ya.
First off, they got these shirts, see? Some are plain, some got stripes, and some got them little horsey pictures all over ’em. My grandson says that’s a brand
thing, makes ’em real expensive. I say, a shirt’s a shirt, as long as it covers your belly and keeps ya cool in the sun. But he says no, grandma, it ain’t that simple. These shirts gotta be made of special stuff, let’s your skin breathe or somethin’. Keeps ya from gettin’ all sweaty, I guess. Then there’s the pants. Now, these ain’t your regular work pants, no sir. They’re all fancy-like, with pockets in all the right places, I suppose. And they come in all sorts of colors, too. Beige, gray, even bright blue and green! My grandson has a pair of them bright blue ones. Looks like a peacock strutting around the golf course, if you ask me. But he says they’re comfortable, lets him swing that golf stick real good. He calls it a golf club, not a stick. Fancy, I tell ya.
- Shirts: Gotta be breathable, whatever that means.
- Pants: Gotta be comfy and let ya move around easy.
- Hats: Keep the sun outta your eyes, and maybe make ya look a little less bald.
Oh, and don’t forget the hats! Every golfer’s gotta have a hat, seems like. Keeps the sun outta your eyes, I reckon. My grandson has a whole bunch of ’em, different colors and different brands again. He says some of ’em are made by these big famous companies, like, uh… I can’t remember the names now. Too many of them fancy words for my old brain. But they’re supposed to be the best, the top of the line, he says. Costs a pretty penny, too. I told him, you could buy a whole new set of work clothes for the price of one of them hats!
And then there’s the shoes. Golf shoes, they call ’em. They got little spikes on the bottom, I guess to keep ya from slippin’ on the grass. My grandson says they’re real important for gettin’ good footing when you swing. I don’t know nothin’ about that, but they look mighty uncomfortable to me. All stiff and pointy. But he says they’re part of the whole golf apparel getup, ya gotta have ’em if ya wanna look the part. And let’s not forget the golf skirts and shorts, for the ladies who also hit that there little white ball.
Speaking of lookin’ the part, that’s a big deal with these golf clothes, it seems. It ain’t just about bein’ comfortable and bein’ able to swing that golf club right. It’s about showin’ off, too, I think. My grandson says when you wear certain brands, people know you’re serious about golf, know you got money to spend. I say, that’s a whole lotta nonsense. But what do I know? I’m just an old lady who wears clothes from the local store.
Golf apparel brands these days is just getting out of hand, if you ask me. Seems like every big sport company now has a whole line of golf clothes, Adidas, Nike, all those big names. And there’s a bunch of smaller brands too, that my grandson talks about, can’t remember their names now, too much mumbo jumbo for me. He spends hours lookin’ at them online, readin’ reviews and comparin’ prices. It’s like a whole ‘nother world, this golf clothes thing. And they all say they are the best, just like those medicine ads on the TV.
Now my grandson he likes Tiger Woods. He always talking about wearing red on Sunday, just like Tiger. He says it’s a tradition or something, brings good luck. I just tell him to wear what’s clean and comfortable. Seems like all these fancy clothes are important to his golf game. He says the good golf pants make it easier for him to swing right, lets him move his legs right. Same with the shirts, not too tight, lets the arms swing freely.
But at the end of the day, I guess it’s all about feelin’ good when you’re out there on the golf course. If wearin’ fancy golf clothes makes my grandson feel good and play better, then I ain’t gonna complain too much. Even if it means he spends half his paycheck on them. Just as long as he remembers to come visit his old grandma every now and then, that’s all that matters to me.
