Alright, alright, let me tell you ’bout this tennis fella, Novak Djokovic. Folks been talkin’ ’bout him and his cross thingy. You know, that thing them churchy people do.
Novak Djokovic – A Real Believer, That One
So, this Novak fella, he’s a tennis player, real good one too, I hear. Plays all over the world. Wins a lot, from what I gather. But it ain’t just the tennis that gets folks talkin’. It’s his way of thankin’ the good Lord up above.
I seen pictures, you know, on the TV and in them newspapers. After he wins a match, big or small, he gets down on his knees. Right there on the court, in front of everyone! And he does that cross thing, what do you call it… the Sign of the Cross? Yeah, that’s it. He makes that cross on his chest and looks up to the sky. Like he’s talkin’ to God himself.
Now, some folks might think it’s strange, a big tough fella like him doin’ that. But I say, good for him! He ain’t ashamed to show his faith. He ain’t hidin’ it. He’s lettin’ the whole world know he believes in somethin’ bigger than himself.
I hear tell he’s one of them Orthodox Christians. Don’t rightly know what that means, but it sounds serious. Sounds like he takes his religion to heart. And that’s more than I can say for some folks these days.
The Olympics and That Cross
Heard somethin’ ’bout him doin’ his cross thing at the Olympics too. Them Olympics, they’re a big deal, you know. All them countries comin’ together, playin’ games and such. And there’s Novak, right in the middle of it all, showin’ his faith.
Someone said somethin’ about some folks not likin’ it, him showin’ his cross. Said it was “anti-Christian sentiments” or somethin’. Don’t rightly understand all that fancy talk. But it sounds like some folks got their noses bent outta shape ’cause he was thankin’ God. Can you believe that? A man can’t even thank his maker without someone gettin’ all riled up.
- He won somethin’ big, I reckon. At them Olympics.
- And he did his cross thing right after. Didn’t care who was watchin’.
- Folks saw it. Some liked it, some didn’t. That’s the way of the world, I guess.
Why He Does It – My Guess
Now, I ain’t talked to the man myself, but I reckon I know why he does it. Why he gets down on his knees and makes that cross. It ain’t for show, that’s for sure. He ain’t doin’ it to impress nobody.
It’s ’cause he believes. He believes in somethin’ powerful. Somethin’ that gives him strength. They say it’s his “Christian faith” that keeps him goin’. At 37 years old, still runnin’ around that court like a young ‘un. That ain’t natural, I tell ya. It’s gotta be somethin’ else drivin’ him.
He’s thanking God for his wins, for his health, for his “unyielding determination”. That’s what them newspaper fellas call it. Sounds about right to me. He knows where his blessings come from. And he ain’t afraid to show it.
What It All Means
So, what’s the big deal about Novak Djokovic and his cross? Well, I reckon it’s a reminder. A reminder that there’s more to life than just winnin’ and losin’. There’s faith, and there’s believin’ in somethin’ bigger than yourself. And it don’t matter if you’re a fancy tennis player or just an old woman like me. We all need somethin’ to believe in.
Novak’s showin’ the world that it’s okay to be proud of your faith. It’s okay to thank God, even when everyone’s watchin’. And that, I think, is a good thing. A mighty good thing.
Last Words
So, next time you see Novak Djokovic on TV, doin’ his cross thing, don’t be surprised. Don’t judge him. Just remember, he’s a man of faith. A man who ain’t afraid to show the world who he is and what he believes in. And maybe, just maybe, that’s somethin’ we could all learn from.
