Alright, so, you wanna know about this Founders Cup 2023, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, it’s like this… It ain’t just one thing, see? It’s like a whole bunch of stuff happenin’ all over the place, all called the same thing.
Founders Cup, what’s that you say? I heard some folks talkin’ ‘bout it down at the market. Sounded like a big deal, some kinda sports thing, ya know? Like them fellas throwin’ balls and runnin’ around.
One thing I did hear, clear as a bell, was about some lady golfer, real good she was. Name of Jin Young Ko. They said she won this Founders Cup thing, not once, but three times in five years! Can ya believe that? Three times! That’s like winnin’ the pie-eatin’ contest at the county fair every year but two. That girl must be somethin’ else. They said somethin’ ’bout her comin’ from behind, too. Wasn’t winnin’ at first, then BAM! She wins. Just like that. That’s some grit, right there.
Then there was this other golfer, Jiyai Shin. They said she used to be number one in the whole wide world, at golfin’. And she was leadin’ some other Founders Cup thing, down in Melbourne. Melbourne… sounds fancy, don’t it? Probably got them fancy toilets and all.

- And Jiyai Shin leadin’ another one, somewhere else.
- And then, wouldn’t ya know it, there’s MORE!
I heard some young’uns talkin’ ‘bout boys playin’ soccer, little fellas, under 11 years old. And they won a Founders Cup too! SHB somethin’ somethin’ they called themselves. Champions, they were. Little tykes kickin’ a ball around and winnin’ trophies. Reminds me of my grandson, always chasin’ after chickens in the yard, bless his heart.
And then, hold on to your hats, there’s even MORE Founders Cups! Seems like everybody and their brother is havin’ a Founders Cup these days. I heard tell of a Founders Cup up in Canada, some kinda lacrosse game, I think. Elora Mohawks, that was the team. They beat some other team somethin’ fierce, 10 to 1. Whupped ‘em good! They even said somethin’ ‘bout this bein’ their sixth time winnin’! Six times! These folks must be real good at throwin’ them balls and sticks.
So, which Founders Cup are you talkin’ about? See, that’s the thing. It ain’t just one thing. It’s like sayin’ “the big game.” Could be anything, dependin’ on who you’re talkin’ to and where you are. It’s a name they give to competitions, to honor folks who started somethin’, I guess. Like them founders, you know, the ones who got it all goin’. Like the folks who built this town, way back when. They were founders, too, I reckon.
Now, they got this 2024 Founders Cup comin’ up too. And it seems like you can even watch it on your tee-vee, or your computer box, whatever them fancy things are called these days. They say Rose Zhang won it, made her a two-time winner! Two times already, and so young! She’s even younger than my granddaughter, imagine that! And they’re gonna be playing for even more money next year! Land sakes, those golfers must be rollin’ in dough.
Anyways, they got all sorts of ways to watch these games now. NBC, Golf Channel, Peacock, ESPN+, some kinda alphabet soup of channels. It’s all too much for me, I tell ya. I’d rather just sit on the porch and watch the birds, myself. But if you’re into sports, sounds like these Founders Cups, all of ‘em, are a pretty big deal.
So, there you have it. Founders Cup 2023, and even a little bit about 2024. It’s a whole lotta different things, all with the same name. Just depends on what you’re lookin’ for, I guess. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my biscuits.
