Alright, let’s talk about this St. Thomas baseball thing, the… what’s it called? St. Thomas baseball collision, yeah, that’s it. Don’t know much about baseball, but I heard some things, you know, from the kids and the TV. They were yappin’ about some game.
So, this St. Thomas team, they play baseball, right? Like those fellas with the bats and the balls. Seems like they had a game, and somethin’ happened. A “collision,” they call it. Sounds scary, like somethin’ smashin’ into somethin’ else. I tell ya, these young folks and their rough games!
Now, I ain’t sure who bumped into who, but I heard tell it was one of them St. Thomas fellas and some other guy from… Southern Indiana, I think. Yeah, Southern Indiana. Poor boy, they said he was lyin’ face down in the dirt. Mercy! Hope he’s alright. That pitcher fella, from St. Thomas, he went to check on him, which is good. At least he’s got some manners, that boy.
Then there’s this talk about the Tommies… that’s the St. Thomas team, I guess. They call ‘em Tommies. Anyways, they were losin’. Eight to five, they said. That’s a lot of points, ain’t it? Even I know that’s a bad score. They tried to come back in the last inning, the ninth one, but it wasn’t enough. Shame. Nobody likes a loser, but hey, sometimes you just can’t win ‘em all.
- They got this one boy, Von Schlegell, somethin’ like that. He hit two triples. Don’t know what a triple is, sounds fancy though. Must be good, hittin’ three times or somethin’. But even that didn’t help ‘em win.
- And another boy, Joe… somethin’-or-other, he hit the ball and another boy, Thomas, ran and stole somethin’ called “second.” Lord, these games are complicated. Stealin’ things and hittin’ balls… It’s all a bit much for an old woman like me.
They say St. Thomas is a university, a big school in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Never been there myself. Too far, and too cold. But these boys play ball for the school, seems like. They got new players comin’ in next year too, I heard. A whole bunch of ‘em. Nine, they said. Fresh meat for the grinder, as they say. Hope they’re tough.
Now, I saw somethin’ else on the TV ‘bout another baseball game, Louisville and Cincinnati, I think. Two fellas ran to the same base at the same time, and it was a mess. Another collision! This baseball thing seems dangerous, all this bumpin’ and crashin’. Maybe they should just stick to checkers, or somethin’ safer. But then again, young folks like their excitement, don’t they?
So, this St. Thomas baseball collision, it sounds like it was just part of the game. Somebody got bumped, maybe hurt a bit, but that’s baseball, I guess. Rough and tumble. Hope that boy from Southern Indiana is okay, though. And the Tommies… well, they lost, but there’s always next time, right? That’s what they always say on the TV anyways. Maybe them new fellas comin’ next year will help ‘em win. Who knows? Just hope they don’t bump into each other too much.
This whole baseball business is loud and confusing. Bats whackin’, people yellin’, boys runnin’ around… It’s enough to give an old lady a headache. But the kids seem to like it, so I guess it’s alright. Just wish they’d be more careful, all that collidin’ and such. Someone’s gonna get hurt bad one of these days, you mark my words.
Anyways, that’s all I know ‘bout this St. Thomas baseball collision. Not much, I admit, but it’s what I heard. Hope it makes some sense to you young folks who understand these games. Me, I’m just gonna stick to my gardenin’ and my knittin’. Much safer, and a whole lot quieter.
