Alright, so today I’m spillin’ the beans on my deep dive into David Duval’s WITB (What’s In The Bag). I’ve always been a gearhead, and Duval’s setup back in his prime was legendary. Figured I’d try to recreate some of that magic, see if it could rub off on my own game. Here’s the whole shebang.

First off, I dug around online to piece together what Duval actually used. This wasn’t easy, mind you. We’re talking about stuff from the late 90s and early 2000s. Found some forum posts, old magazine articles, and even a few grainy photos. Pieced together a rough list:
- Driver: Titleist 975D
- Fairway Woods: Titleist PT 15 degree, Titleist PT 19 degree
- Irons: Titleist Forged 681
- Wedges: Titleist Vokey Oil Can 52, 58 degree
- Putter: Scotty Cameron Newport 2
- Ball: Titleist Professional
Next up: The Hunt. This was the real challenge. Started scrounging on eBay, used golf equipment sites, and even hit up a few local shops. Let me tell you, finding these clubs in decent condition was like searching for a unicorn riding a leprechaun.
The Titleist 975D Driver: Man, that was a beast to find. Ended up snagging one on eBay. It had seen better days, a few sky marks and a well-worn grip, but hey, it was the real deal. Gave it a good cleaning and slapped on a new grip.
The Fairway Woods: Titleist PT 15 and 19 degree. These took forever to track down. Found a 15 degree at a used sports store. The 19 degree was trickier. Finally scored one on a golf forum from some guy who had it stashed in his garage.
The Irons: Titleist Forged 681s. These were surprisingly easier to find than I expected. Found a complete set on eBay in pretty decent shape. The grips were a bit crusty, so swapped those out immediately. Felt good in my hands, really solid.

Wedges: Titleist Vokey Oil Can 52 and 58 degree. These were relatively easy to find. Vokey wedges are always floating around. Picked up a couple that were in good shape, just needed a little cleaning.
Putter: Scotty Cameron Newport 2. Now, this is a classic. Finding one wasn’t too difficult, but finding one that wasn’t ridiculously overpriced was another story. Scored a used one in decent condition at a local golf shop. The face was a little worn, but still felt great.
The Ball: Titleist Professional. Ok, you can’t find these anymore. Settled for the modern Titleist Pro V1. Close enough, right?
Finally, it was time to hit the range. Took the whole setup out and started banging balls. The 975D driver felt surprisingly good, even though it’s ancient by today’s standards. The fairway woods were solid, and the irons were butter. Those Vokey wedges are money, as always. The Newport 2 putter felt amazing.
The Result? Did I suddenly start playing like David Duval? Nah, not even close. But it was a blast recreating his bag and getting a feel for what he used. Plus, it’s always fun to mess around with some classic equipment. My takeaway? Gear definitely matters, but it’s the swing that really counts. Now to put in some work on that!
