Okay, here’s my blog post about my little wrestling side project:

Alright guys, so you know I’ve been messing around with some video editing software lately. Well, I got this crazy idea after watching some old WWE clips on YouTube… The Rock on Smackdown, man, that era was GOLD.
So, first thing I did was hit up YouTube. Just searched for “The Rock Smackdown highlights”. Downloaded a bunch of clips, made sure they were decent quality – didn’t want no pixelated garbage. Used a YouTube downloader extension on Chrome, worked like a charm.
Next up, the actual editing. I’m using DaVinci Resolve, it’s free and pretty powerful once you get the hang of it. Imported all the video clips. Then the real work began – sifting through all that footage. Looking for the best promos, the People’s Elbow, the Rock Bottom… you know, the good stuff.
I started by cutting out all the filler. You know, the entrances that go on forever, the random backstage segments that don’t really go anywhere. Just straight to the action. Chop, chop, chop! It took a while, but I managed to get down to about 20 minutes of pure Rock awesomeness.
Then came the music. Gotta have some good background music to pump up the energy. I didn’t want to use any copyrighted stuff, so I hit up some royalty-free music sites. Found a few tracks that sounded like they belonged in a wrestling video game. Layered those in, adjusted the volume so they weren’t overpowering the commentary.

Next, I added some transitions between clips. Just simple fades and wipes, nothing too fancy. Also threw in some text overlays with quotes from The Rock, you know, “Know Your Role and Shut Your Mouth!”, “If you smell what The Rock is cooking!”.
The hardest part? Syncing the audio properly. Sometimes the audio from the original clips was a little off, so I had to mess around with the timing to get everything sounding right. That took some serious patience. Lots of trial and error, believe me.
Then I rendered the video, making sure the settings were right for YouTube. Uploaded it, added a catchy title and description, and boom – The Rock WWE Smackdown highlight reel was live!
Lessons learned? Video editing is time-consuming! But it’s also a lot of fun. And seeing the finished product, knowing you created something cool, is a great feeling. I am thinking about doing Stone Cold Steve Austin next.
- Tools Used: YouTube downloader extension, DaVinci Resolve
- Time Spent: About 5 hours total
- Biggest Challenge: Audio syncing
The Rock’s Best Insults
Now, a bonus for you all! While I was knee-deep in Rock footage, I started cataloging his insults. Man, he was brutal! Here are a few of my favorites that I managed to slip into the video:
- “You’re about as useful as a screen door on a submarine!”
- “You look like a monkey wearing people clothes!”
- “The only thing you’re good at is embarrassing yourself!”
Anyway, that’s it for now. Let me know what you think of the video, and if you have any suggestions for future projects! Later!
