Okay, so today I decided to mess around with the Ark Fjordur map, specifically hunting down where all the good resources are. You know, gotta get that metal, obsidian, crystal… all the good stuff. It’s a pain to just wander around hoping to stumble on what you need, so I figured I’d document my journey and make it easier for everyone else (and future me!).

Getting Started: Finding a Decent Map
First things first, I needed a good resource map. Just flying blind wasn’t going to cut it. I mean sure I could explore, which is what I do most of the time. After looking at some old screenshots, I finally pinpoint a decent map. No more guessing!
My Resource Hunting Route
So, I’ve got my map, and I’ve planned out a rough route. I usually start somewhere near the easier areas, build up a bit, and then venture into the more dangerous zones.
- Early Game (Metal & Stone): I usually stick to the starting areas for basic stone and some scattered metal nodes. It’s not much, but it’s enough to get your first metal tools. And it is relatively safe.
- Mid Game (More Metal, Crystal): Then, I headed towards some of the hills and mountains. These areas have way more metal, and you can start finding some decent crystal deposits too. Watch out for the argies though, they can be nasty.
- Obsidian Run: This area is filled with it, but get ready for a fight, the place is swarming with dangerous creatures. One time, I got chased by a pack of Allosaurus.
- Late Game (Black Pearls, Rare Mushrooms, etc.): I decided to try my luck there. I prepped by taming a high-level dino for protection. The underwater caves are intense! But the rewards? Totally worth it.
The Grind and the Payoff
It was a long day of flying, fighting, and gathering. I died a few times, lost a few tames, and screamed, but I came away with a mountain of resources. My storage bins are overflowing! I built a couple of new forges and got to smelting. My base is finally starting to look like something!
Seriously, having a good resource map makes a huge difference. It turns the game from a frustrating scavenger hunt into a strategic operation. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a whole lot of crafting to do!
