Okay, so I decided to mess around with my golf grip today, inspired by the one and only Tiger Woods. I’ve been slicing the ball like crazy lately, and I figured, hey, why not try to copy the best?

Getting Started
First, I watched a bunch of YouTube videos. I mean, a TON. Slow-motion swings, close-ups of his hands, everything. I wanted to really see what he was doing.
I grabbed my 7-iron and headed out to the backyard. No driving range today, just me, the grass, and a bucket of old balls.
The Experiment
I started with my normal grip, you know, the one that sends the ball sailing right into the neighbor’s yard. Felt comfortable, familiar… and totally ineffective.
Then, I tried to mimic Tiger’s interlocking grip. It’s where you lock your left index finger with right pinky. It felt SO WEIRD. My hands felt all tangled up, and I was pretty sure I was going to whiff the ball completely.
- First few swings: Awful. Like, really awful. Topped one, shanked another, and barely made contact with the third.
- Getting the hang of it: I kept at it, making tiny adjustments. Moved my left hand a little stronger, focused on keeping my wrists firm.
- Feeling more control: It Slowly start to feel… okay. Not great, but definitely different. I felt like I had more control over the club face.
The Results… (So Far)
I hit about 50 balls, and I’d say maybe 10 of them went relatively straight. Progress, right? The ball flight was lower, which is what I had noticed some people said online. I even had good distance on a couple.

My hands are killing me. I’m pretty sure I’ve got blisters forming. But, I’m weirdly optimistic. It’s not a miracle cure, but I think with some practice, this Tiger Woods grip thing might actually help. At the very least, it’s given me something new to focus on, instead of just getting frustrated with my slice. Will update after I play a round of golf with this new grip.
