Okay, so I’ve been digging into this whole “greatest golfer to never win a major” thing, and man, is it a rabbit hole! I started by just, you know, Googling around – super scientific, I know. I wanted to find some names, get a feel for who the usual suspects were.
My Deep Dive (aka, Lots of Reading)
First, I compiled a list. Just names, names, names. I used a few different websites, some forums, and even checked out some old articles. It was a mess, honestly. Lots of different opinions, lots of players who almost made it.
Then I started to narrow it down. I figured I needed some criteria, right? It couldn’t just be “oh, this guy was good.” So I decided to look at things like:
- Number of PGA Tour wins
- Top 10 finishes in majors (so close, yet so far!)
- How long they played at a high level
- Just general reputation – what did the golf world think of them?
This part was tough. I spent hours reading player profiles, watching old tournament footage (thank you, YouTube!), and basically just immersing myself in golf history. I even tried to find some stats on how often these guys choked in big moments, but that was…tricky. Let’s just say some players are known for it more than others.
I kept going back and forth on a few names. Like, one guy might have a ton of wins, but another guy consistently finished in the top 5 of majors for like, a decade. It’s a tough call! It really showed me that there’s no perfect answer.
Finally, I think I’ve got my list down to a manageable size. It’s still subjective, of course – everyone’s gonna have their own opinion. But I feel like I’ve done the work, looked at the evidence, and come up with a pretty solid argument for my picks. Now I just gotta, you know, write the actual article!
