Okay, so I’ve been meaning to regrip my clubs for, like, ever. Finally got around to it this weekend, and figured I’d share how it went. I went with the Golf Pride grips, ’cause, you know, they’re kinda the standard.

First things first, I gathered all my junk. I got:
- New Golf Pride grips (duh)
- Grip tape
- Grip solvent
- Utility knife (with a hook blade ā super important!)
- A vise (to hold the club steady)
- Some rags,for clean up.
Getting the Old Grips Off
This part was kinda satisfying, ngl. I clamped my club into the vise, making sure the head was pointing up. Then, I carefully used that hook blade to slice down the length of the old grip. Had to be careful not to scratch the shaft, especially since some of mine are graphite. Once I got a good cut, I just peeled that old grip off like a banana. Nasty, but satisfying.
Prepping the Shaft
With the old grip gone, there was usually some leftover tape. I sprayed some of the solvent on there, let it sit for a minute, and then scraped it off with the back of the knife blade. Some people use a heat gun, but I didn’t feel like messing with that. Just make sure you get all the old gunk off, so the new tape sticks properly.
Putting on the New Tape
This is where it gets a little tricky. I wrapped the grip tape around the shaft, starting just below where the grip would end. I made sure to overlap the tape a little bit, and left about an inch hanging over the end of the shaft. Then I twisted that extra inch and tucked it into the butt end of the shaft. This is supposed to keep solvent from getting inside.
Time for the New Grip
Here comes the fun part. I generously applied the solvent all inside the new grip, covered the end with my finger, and shaked that thing up. I made sure the solvent covered all of the inside. Then, I quickly poured the extra solvent over the grip tape on the shaft.

Then, as fast as I could, I slid the new grip onto the shaft. It was a little bit of a wrestling match, but I made sure to push it all the way on, and aligned it how I wanted it. You gotta work fast, ’cause that solvent evaporates quick!
The Waiting Game…
After I got all the grips on, I just wiped off any excess solvent and let them dry. I let them dry overnight, and try not to touch them. Now my clubs are feeling fresh and ready to go. Hopefully, this helps my gameā¦ probably not, but at least my hands won’t be slipping!
