Okay, so today I wanted to mess around with something completely different – “pirates and cubs.” Sounds weird, right? It started when I saw this cool image online, and I was like, “I gotta try to recreate this!”

Getting Started
First things first, I needed some reference images. I spent a good hour just browsing the internet, saving anything that looked remotely pirate-y or cub-ish. Think eye patches, pirate hats, little bear cubs, that kinda stuff.
The Rough Sketch
Next, I grabbed my tablet and started sketching. I’m no artist, mind you, but I can put together some basic shapes. I started with the cub – just a simple, round body, some stubby legs, and a cute little face. Then came the pirate gear. This was trickier. I went through, like, five different versions of the pirate hat before I got something that didn’t look totally ridiculous.
Adding Details (and Messing Up a Lot)
Once I had the basic sketch, I started adding details. Stripes on the shirt, a little patch on the cub’s eye, a tiny sword… This is where I really started to struggle. The sword looked more like a toothpick, and the eye patch kept ending up in the wrong place. There was a lot of erasing, I tell you.
Coloring It In
After what felt like forever, I finally had a sketch I was (sort of) happy with. Time for color! I went with classic pirate colors – reds, browns, a bit of black. For the cub, I kept it simple: brown fur, pink nose. Easy peasy.
- I used basic color palette.
- Red, brown, and black colors for priate.
- Brown for cub.
The Final Result
And… that’s it! It’s definitely not perfect, and it doesn’t win an award soon, but I had a blast making it. It was a fun little project to take my mind off things, and I learned a bit about drawing in the process. Maybe I’ll try pirates and something else next time, Any suggestions?
