Okay, folks, let’s dive into my little adventure of figuring out the “best AAU teams ever.” It’s been a bit of a rabbit hole, but a fun one!
I started out, like most people probably do, just hitting up Google. I typed in “best AAU teams ever,” and, well, you can imagine the flood of results. Lots of articles, forum discussions, and even some old videos. It was information overload!
So, I decided to narrow things down. Instead of trying to find the best, I focused on finding teams that consistently popped up in these discussions. You know, the ones that people kept mentioning over and over again.
I spent a good chunk of an afternoon just reading through articles and forum posts. I made a list of team names that I saw repeatedly. It was pretty messy, just a bunch of names scribbled on a piece of paper, but it was a start.
Digging Deeper
- Watched highlight reels on a platform that hosts videos.
- Looked for old game stats if I found them.
- Tried searching players individually, to find which teams they are in.
Then came the fun part (for me, anyway): watching old game footage. I’m a sucker for old-school basketball, so this was a treat. Seeing these young players, some of whom went on to become NBA superstars, was awesome. I tried to find as many games as possible, just to get a feel for how these teams played.
After doing that i found it difficult to find a definate *’s all pretty subjective, you know? What one person considers “best” might be different from someone else’s opinion. Plus, it’s hard to compare teams from different eras.

So, I realized I couldn’t come up with a definitive “best ever” list. There’s just no way to objectively say one team was better than all the others. But what I did get was a deep appreciation for the history of AAU basketball and the incredible talent that’s come through these programs.
I do have my personal list now, but that just what I think, it all depends on your preference. Anyway, it has been a funny journey.
