Okay, so today I messed around with this thing called “Hap Whitaker.” Honestly, I didn’t even know what it was this morning, but I was bored and looking for something to do, and well, here we are.
Getting Started
First, I had to, you know, figure out what Hap Whitaker actually is. Turns out, it is kind of hard to define. It has to do with poetry and other things maybe. Seemed interesting enough for a few hours, anyway.
Diving In…Head First
I started by just googling around, looking for examples. I mean, that’s the best way to start, right? Just see what other people have done. It turns out there’s some really cool stuff, but also some pretty…weird stuff.
Next I started to try to make something based on my google research.
- Brain Dump: Wrote down every single random word that popped into my head. No filter, just pure chaos on a page.
- Trying to find something to make it make sense: Kind of mashed some of those words together, shuffled them around, and tried to see if anything sounded…poetic? I guess?
- Rereading it a million times: Seriously, I read it out loud, whispered it, even tried singing it (don’t ask). Still not sure if it’s good, but it’s…something.
Final Result (Maybe?)
I ended up with this kind of short, I dunno, freeform piece? It’s not a poem in the traditional sense, but it has a certain…vibe. I’m not even going to share it here, because, well, it’s kind of personal, and also, I’m still not 100% sure what I think of it.
Overall, messing with Hap Whitaker was a fun way to spend an afternoon. I’m not sure I’m a convert, but I definitely expanded my creative horizons a bit. Maybe I’ll try it again sometime, maybe not. Who knows!
