Okay, so I have this friend, Roy Yuan. We go way back. He’s been trying to get into St. Francis, you know, the high school? It’s a big deal around here. He’s been prepping for the entrance exam forever. I thought I’d lend a hand, so we started these study sessions. First, I set up a schedule, nothing too crazy, just a couple of hours after school most days. We met up at my place or sometimes at the library, whichever worked.
We kicked things off with the basics. I dug out some old textbooks and practice tests. We would go through each subject, one at a time. I made sure Roy understood the concepts, not just memorize the answers. Math was a bit of a struggle, so I spent extra time on that. I drew diagrams, explained formulas, and tried to make it as clear as possible. English was easier, but we still worked on essays and reading comprehension.
- Started with math, because it is the hardest for him.
- Then moved on to English, mostly essay writing.
- Practiced a ton of reading to boost comprehension skills.
After a few weeks, we started doing mock exams. I timed them just like the real thing. It was tough, but it really helped Roy get used to the pressure. We graded the tests together, and I pointed out areas where he could improve. We celebrated small victories, like when he nailed a particularly tough problem or wrote a really good essay.
The Exam
Finally, the day of the exam arrived. Roy was nervous, but I tried to keep him calm. I reminded him of all the hard work he had put in. I drove him to the school and waited outside. When he came out, he had a huge grin on his face. He said it went well, and he felt confident.
A few weeks later, the results came in. Roy got accepted into St. Francis! We were both over the moon. He called me right away, and we celebrated with a pizza. It was a great feeling to see all that effort pay off. I’m super proud of him, and it was awesome to be a part of his journey.
This whole experience taught me a lot about patience and the value of hard work. Seeing Roy succeed made all those study sessions worthwhile. I guess, that’s what friends are for. Supporting each other through thick and thin.
