Alright, so, I was scrolling through Instagram the other day, and I kept seeing these cool T-shirts with “street trash” written on them. I thought, “Hey, I can do that!” So, I decided to make my own street trash T-shirt. It sounded simple enough, right?
First things first, I needed a T-shirt. I rummaged through my closet and found this old, plain white tee that I hadn’t worn in ages. Perfect canvas! It’s a bit oversized, which is great ’cause I wanted that baggy, streetwear look.
Then came the fun part – deciding on the design. I mean, “street trash” is pretty straightforward, but I wanted to add my own twist. I grabbed a pencil and started sketching on some paper. I thought about adding some edgy graphics, maybe some graffiti-style lettering, I don’t know what graffiti-style is, maybe I just add some spray effect.
- Finding the right font: This was trickier than I expected. I wanted something bold, something that screamed “street.” I went through a bunch of fonts on my computer – I don’t really have a computer but let’s just say I did – and finally settled on this one that looked kinda like it was spray-painted on.
- Adding some graphics: I decided to add a few simple graphics around the words. Maybe a cracked skull, a couple of grungy-looking stars, and, of course, a trash can icon. I’m no artist, but I think I did alright.
Once I was happy with the design, it was time to transfer it to the T-shirt. I had some fabric markers lying around, so I figured I’d just freehand it. I carefully outlined the letters and graphics with a light-colored marker first, just to make sure everything was positioned correctly. I don’t want to mess up with my old tee. Then, I went over it with a black fabric marker, filling in the letters and adding some shading to the graphics.
To give it that extra “street” vibe, I decided to add some splatter effects. I dipped an old toothbrush in some watered-down fabric paint and flicked it onto the shirt. It was a bit messy, but hey, that’s part of the aesthetic, right? At first, I am not sure about the color for the paint, I think yellow is too bright, red looks like blood, so I chose black.
The Final Touches
After letting the paint dry, I threw the T-shirt in the dryer for a bit to set the design. And that’s how I used one day to make my own street trash T-shirt. I paired it with some ripped jeans and my favorite sneakers, and I have to say, I felt pretty cool. My girlfriend even complimented me, saying, “That looks exactly like the ones on Instagram!” Mission accomplished!
This whole experience taught me that you don’t need fancy equipment or a ton of skill to create something cool. Just a little bit of creativity and some basic supplies can go a long way. Plus, it’s super satisfying to wear something you made yourself. I’m already thinking about my next DIY project – maybe a custom hoodie? Or some patchwork jeans? The possibilities are endless! Stay tuned!
